Register  to  Vote  in  South  Dakota​


​To ensure your voice is heard in the upcoming elections, make sure you're registered to vote. Here's what you need to know:
  • Deadline: The deadline to register is 15 days before any election.
  • Eligibility: You must be 18 years of age or older on or before the next election and have maintained residence in South Dakota for at least 30 days prior to submitting your registration form.
  • How to Register: Complete the ​South Dakota Voter Registration Form. This form can also be used to update your address, name, or party affiliation.
  • Where to Submit: Mail to Lawrence County Auditor PO Box F, Deadwood, SD 57732  or drop off your completed form at Lawrence County Auditor's Office 90 Sherman St, Deadwood, SD 57732

Important  Election   Dates

​
  • Absentee & Early Voting Begins: September 20, 2024
    • Vote in person at Deadwood City Hall: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm
    • Vote at Spearfish City Hall: Monday - Friday, 9 am - 4 pm  (Starting October 21)
  • Voter Registration Deadline: October 21, 2024
  • General Election Day: November 5, 2024

​Find  Your  Polling  Place


​To find your polling location, visit the South Dakota Voter Information Portal. ​Your polling place on election day is different than early voting locations.

​What  to  Bring  to  the  Polls


​All voters must show proof of identification at the polling place. Accepted forms of photo ID include:
  • South Dakota driver's license or nondriver ID card
  • U.S. government photo ID (passport is acceptable)
  • U.S. Armed Forces ID
  • Current student photo ID from a South Dakota high school or accredited institution of higher education
  • Tribal photo ID
If you do not have a photo ID, you can sign a personal identification affidavit and still vote with a regular ballot.
